A wrong turn changes everything

Back in February I ventured out Highway 20 to go and camp at the Baker Lake hot springs. The hot springs were tough to find the first time, which resulted in myself driving about twenty minutes past them on a forest road. When I had realized I passed the hot springs I was at an impressive lookout, which gave me the idea for a future camping spot. That camping spot was now my next adventure.

I drove up the steep rocky forest road, some of the pot holes push the limits of my Jeep Patriots clearance, but I didn’t have too much trouble going slow. Once I made it to the top, I set up the Rhino Rack and popped the tent and got settled in. This was one of the first times I arrived at a camping spot early and had some time to relax. I set up my Zarges box on the cliff edge and enjoyed the view for a while. The Zarges box is pretty light when its empty, It makes a great camping table. I sat in my chair for about a good 4 hours just looking at the view in front of me.

It’s always in the back of my mind that I will encounter someone in the middle of my night when camping right off the road. At about 11pm, a man drove up to my campsite and started to walk towards me, he asked me if I could help him with something. This was a weird way to approach someone in the middle of the night, luckily bear spray was close by. He asked where the hot springs were and proceeded on his way back down the road. I guess I wasn’t the only person who had trouble finding them, but I’m thankful I didn’t, because in the process I discovered my favorite camping spot to date. Sometimes taking the wrong turn can be a very good thing.
