A Life Alive – Into the Great White North (part II)

After about 1,500 miles from the North Cascades in Washington State reality sets in. After a long winter in the Pacific Northwest – what I had always considered the “North Country” – I began to realize how early in our trip we truly were. We were just getting started. After crossing into Canada and making our way through Banff and Jasper, Garrett and I had began our route up the Alcan Highway, considered to be one of the great overland journeys in North America.

We dodged blizzards, buffalo and caribou, and made an early camp at Liard Hot Springs in Northern British Columbia. The weather had regressed to what felt like a harsh January, but a warm fire and coffee brought back our spirits, and after a quick journal entry we closed ourselves up in the tent and the lights went out.
